Robin Poynder

Robin is an advisor focusing on Regulation of the OTC Financial Markets, in particular the preparation for MiFID II and mitigation of Conduct Risk. Following a career in foreign exchange trading and management, Robin spent time at Thomson Reuters managing part of the FX&MM business. In recent years Robin has spent a considerable amount of time engaging with Regulators and key market participants around the G20 commitment to regulation and potential consequences on the OTC markets. He has built up a significant network of contacts and experience in this field. This background gives Robin a deep understanding of the foreign exchange industry, strong understanding of the policies and aims of the newer global Regulatory approach, as well as a recent ‘neutral’ non-bank history – providing a unique insight into how the OTC business is being and will be affected by the recent and impending Regulations such as Best Execution and Investor Protection under MiFID. Changing culture in particular is a major focus for his work, helping firms understand how a programme to demonstrate change in this area might be realised and aligned to the aims of FEMR and SMR – such as for the extension of SMR into the wider wholesale markets. Alongside his conventional role, from 1999-2002 Robin also acted as President of ACI UK, the financial markets association. He sits on the OMFIF Advisory Board and previously sat on the ESMA Consultative Working Group that is looking at Regulatory Technical Standards relating to MiFID II implementation and on the ECB FX Contact Group.
